Kristina Shafranski (Voice)

Soprano Kristina Shafranski has recently performed the role of Erste Dame and covered the role of Pamina in Die Zauberflöte with New York Lyric Opera Theater. Kristina traveled to Kyiv, Ukraine in August where she performed opera scenes with the National Presidential Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine on the Bouquet Kyiv Stage.

Previously, Kristina performed in Chicago College of Performing Arts’ 11th annual OperaFest as Allie in the world premiere of Opera Noir (2018), Sophie in The Finishing School and Finette in Bagatelle (2019). Kristina’s scenes work include Juliette in Roméo et Juliette, Countess andSusanna in Le nozze di Figaro, Donna Anna and Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, Lucy in The Threepenny Opera, Musetta in La Bohème, and Maria in Maria Stuarda.

Kristina was born and raised in Long Island, New York as a first-generation daughter of Ukrainian immigrants. The strength and courage she has witnessed in her immigrant parents continuously motivates her to work hard and follow her dreams. Kristina earned her master’s degree in Voice Performance in 2019, where she studied with Elizabeth Byrne at Roosevelt University’s Chicago College of Performing Arts. Her repertoire includes works by Rossini, Massenet, Liudkevych, Rachmaninoff, and Larsen. She began taking voice lessons in the jazz and pop genres at the age of seven. At a young age, Kristina was seen on the stages of many Ukrainian music and dance festivals, including the highly anticipated New York City Ukrainian Festival of East Village (St. George Ukrainian Festival), as well as festivals in New Jersey, Delaware, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Illinois.

Kristina received her Bachelor of Science in Music with a concentration in Vocal Performance and her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a minor in European Studies from Hofstra University in 2017. At Hofstra University, Kristina learned to love opera in the roles of Gabrielle in La Vie Parisienne (2016) and Lucy in The Beggar’s Opera (2017). Kristina was awarded the Dorothy B. Hoag Honors Recital and Endowed Scholarship in the fall of 2016 and the William H. Lawrence Honors Recital in the fall of 2015. Kristina’s additional awards include finalist in the National Opera Association’s 2019 Scholarship Division and first-place with the Festival of Song USA 2015, which gave her the opportunity to perform in Sicily for the Cantamare Festival. Kristina’s concert works have included performances at Carnegie Hall with the Long Island Youth Chorale and tours of the Northeastern U.S. with Hofstra’s selective Chamber Choir.
