Day 6 – Concert Night!
Saturday, July 7th
Today was another day during which I planned on walking to the opposite end of town but then wasn’t able to. Maxim had another rehearsal at 11:30 today, and really wanted to come on the walk with me, so I postponed it again. Instead we all went back to San Pietro, and this time we did find the church! Michael had told us that it was the most beautiful church in Perugia. It was pretty beautiful, with paintings all over its walls. At the front of the church, behind the altar, there was an open door looking out on a beautiful panoramic view!
When Maxim had to leave the group for rehearsal, Mohit, Jane, Jason, and I ventured to the Botanical Gardens. What a hard place to find! When we found it, the gardens seemed to just be some sort of burnt-out park. Walking down the path, we realized the actual park was closed on the weekends! That’s fine anyway, because after reading up on it, the gardens are more for research than for beauty.
I took a journey of my own to the Palazzo Della Penna, a museum that holds baroque, modern, futurist, and contemporary art. The most interesting exhibit there was probably the Comma Project Exhibit. The Comma Project is a program in which artists from all over Italy and Europe come together and create art awareness (or at least that’s what I took from the information available). The art pieces were all very different and varied. I would have liked SOME information though. No titles or anything! I think that was the point of the art though.
I played again today in master class. I surprisingly did pretty well considering my last two failed attempts! It seems that I might be playing my Bach f minor Concerto at the concert on Friday! The Schumann, the piece I really wanted to play, is just not worth the aggravation! I’m on vacation after all! I’m going to stick with what I know.
Dinner at Náná again tonight! This time we ate outside and it was just us kids: Maxim, Jason, Mohit, Soon, and me. Maxim had been eating too much pasta and cheese, so I was instructed to get him a salad and make him eat it. Oh, I don’t think he liked it very much. But, with my fine skills, I was able to make him eat every last green on his plate!
Tonight was the first Student Concert night. Chamber groups and singers got first priority. The vocalists will be at a concert in Spoleto on Friday, so they need to go on the earlier programs. Maxim played first and last, and I recorded his performances. I was getting tired, but it seemed a lot shorter than last night’s concert!
Day 6 Fun Tidbits:(Marina Nebro)
- I couldn’t find my way to the museum and had to ask a friendly man for directions!
- Michael says that Náná won’t be opened tomorrow! Where will I get my lunch???
